Winona Freckles came into my life on April 7, 2006 and she is the joy of my life!
With the tremendous contribution of Cascade K9, patience, lots of love, and time, Winona has calmed down, and is a very happy, well adjusted young lady! She is company (and a pest) to our senior black Labrador, my new walking partner, a great watchdog, (even though she is DEAF), and a wonderful new family member!
Because she is deaf, her other senses are very fine tuned, and she is observant of ANY activity wherever she is, including people walking by the house, or coming down the stairs to our house… she never ceases to surprise us!
This summer she had the pleasure of going on her very first vacation with us to Crater Lake, Oregon, the California Redwoods, and the Oregon Coast. She was absolutely thrilled at every step along the journey, and of course the hiking and beach walking were her favorites. Because she spent most of her young life in a shelter, she needed house training and that was a new challenge for us, not knowing where to start with a deaf dog. While camping on our vacation, she was very persistent in letting us know (in the middle of the night) that she needed to go out, so we were ecstatic to see her finally reach this milestone!!
Just like our labrador, Winona is very much a people dog. Nothing is more important than sitting on our feet, or hanging her head on our shoulder while we are driving down the road… I look forward to many more days of companionship with my Winona Freckles. Thank you Ginger for saving her life and caring so much about the animals. AND Winnie thinks you’re incredible TOO!!
