Hi Ginger,

This is Fiona (but we don’t use that name anymore – I love my new name of Sadie and jump to attention when I hear it!). I just wanted to send you a thank you for helping me find my forever home. My mommy and daddy love me so much! The first thing they did was get me a fancy schmancy new ‘chew proof’ collar with a shiny name tag on it, letting everyone in the world know that I belong to them!! They also got a fluffy bed to fit in my crate and a whole slew of chew toys to keep my baby teeth happy both inside and out. Although I love running and digging and learning new tricks – my favorite games are tug of war and ‘just try to catch me’!

I have a beautiful new home and it only took me a couple of days to learn that ducks and chickens aren’t for chasing, you shouldn’t put your nose into a strange cats face and horses are MUCH bigger up close than when you see ‘em out in the field. My best friend in all the world is another doggie named Conner. He’s such a great big brother (he’s so much more mature ‘cause he’s a big fancy 3 year old). We wrestle first thing in the morning, chase some cars along the fence line, bark when our neighbors bring out their trash, wrestle some more, have our breakfast followed by some wrestling, chase some Frisbees and tennis balls before I go back inside to sleep until my mommy and the girls wake up (daddy gets before the roosters do), then Conner and I wrestle and dig until we take my darling Lyddie to school, then we do a little wrestling in between harassing the cat and then we go get Lydia at lunch. I get to come inside to take a nap with them after lunch, and then it’s wrestling, tug o war, and snuggles with the family until bed time with Conner.

But no matter how much I love my mom, dad, and big brother Conner, there is no one in the world who I love more than my darling Lydia and her baby sister Gabby. I positively come unglued when I see them and it’s all they can do to get me to stop licking the baby!! Lydia sometimes has a hard time waking up for school in the morning and on those days my mommy sends me tearing up to Lyd’s room to lick her until she gets out of bed. I make her laugh so hard that she gets the hiccups!!

You would be so proud of me. My mommy said I have the best manners! I know Sit, Down, Off (almost), Quiet, Leave It (mostly with the cats), Wait, Heel and I can almost Stay but only for a second. I also am learning how to bring back the stick when we fetch and I never get up on the counters, couches, beds, or tables (okay – maybe I did that once, but now I know counters aren’t for surfing for food). I also learned how to Give when we’re playing with my toys!! But I am part Cattle dog – so sometimes I just stare at my mom with an “Oh Yeah – Make me” look and they have to sometimes tell me things more than once. And I am still a baby – so sometimes I forget my manners and they have to remind me. But I’m learning quickly.

My family recently took me on a huge camping trip. We all took the truck and trailer all the way down to Southern Oregon. I was such a dream and absolutely loved everyone I met. I started off the trip having to be lifted into my daddy’s super huge dually – but by the end I could jump up by myself just like Conner does. I’m not too hip on the truck when it’s moving, until I discovered I could lay up on top of my kennel and get to look out the windows! I loved meeting new people (even if I do get protective of my family sometimes – but that’s part of my job). We went hiking and swimming at the lake – HOLY COW DO I LOVE WATER!!! I almost swam – but was a little scared. Then when my darling Lydia went in her innertube and I tried to go after her so she had to come back to the shore. It’s my job to make sure she’s safe – I won’t let anyone come near here unless her mommy says it’s okay, I don’t let her out of my site when we’re playing outside on the farm and I’ve even been told I can be pretty intimidating when I want to be!

And when we’re inside relaxing or my mom’s on the computer, I like to lye under my family’s feet. I feel safest when I can curl up as tiny as a cat and lay underneath those who take care of me. Yep – I think I have it pretty good here and don’t ever want to leave. Good thing my family says they never want to let me go.

Mom took some pictures of me and I’m sending those along. I can’t thank you enough for saving me and for keeping me safe until my new family could find me. They say they couldn’t imagine their life without me.

All my love,

Sweet Sadie (formerly known as Fiona)
